fishing "scents" - EasternFishing - 06-02-2009

What do you guys think of fishing scents?

I've heard of some nice results during trout season over here in buffalo using this scent made by a local dealer. Any successes with scents in your experiences?

Most of the stuff I've seen like that just smells like heavy garlic. Try blending garlic powder and water into a slightly thick mixture and then smell it, you can add fish oils as well to give it the oily feel.

Hello EF,
I have had success with scents and like to use'em. Sometimes I wonder if it is more my imagination but I think they do help. I have been fishing the same powerbait as a buddy in the same area, and caught many more fish then he did (not using scent), so nothing scientific about it but I use it and think it helps.

You can also put your soft plastic baits into a ziplock baggie and add garlic salt with a little water (or oil where you have fried fish or any fried meats at night, dont refrig as it will harden your cooking oil) if you are going fishing early morning. I have good luck with that little trick for pan fish as well as decent size cats big enough 2 will make a nice meal for me.
Dont leave your soft bait in this indeffinately, the salt can change the coloring.

I always have a tube of Mega-strike in my box. It also has a slight garlic smell.

i bought some markers that have a garlic sent. your suppose to use them to paint plastics... i dont know how well they will work but man they sure stink. I was going to play a prank on a guy at work and wrote all over a peace of paper and stuck it in his locker so when he opened it it would stink like garlic. but it smelled us out of the locker room... It was horrible. but if the fish like it i guesse i will use it.

You know I think I am going to try fishing with just garlic one of these days. Just use a clove of garlic as bait and see if I get a bite...

I have three different scents in my tackle box.. I'll go through them all in a day looking for one that works better than the others..
