First trip out in the boat - ross220 - 05-16-2009
The first trip out in my boat didn't turn out as I had hoped but it didn't sink and I got back to the dock so it wasn't all bad. I took my wife and kids to Mackay Res. on Mother's day to try the boat out. ( I know i'm late getting this out but i have been farming )
On the way there a bolt broke on the trailer, that holds a gang of rollers on. The boat wasn't dragging but one side was sitting on the wheel fender. I decided to unload the boat at the lake and try to fix the trailer then.
I got the boat unloaded fine and the motor started like a champ, we cruised the lake for a few minutes then decided to try and catch a fish. I fired up the new trolling motor and tested it out for a bit then was getting some poles for the kids ready when the trolling motor died. I think that it got flooded, ( the idle needs some adjusting I think ) and it wouldn't start again.
I figure I will just start the big motor and head back. Well that motor wont start cause the battery is dead. I had two batteries and one didn't have a good charge and the other must be bad because I had just charged it. Well I got the pull rope out and tugged on the big motor but still couldn't get it started.
I finally got the trolling motor started again and headed for the boat ramp. I helped another guy new to boats get his boat loaded, then fixed the trailer and got the boat loaded up.
It was a good learning experience! I just bought 2 new batteries and have fixed the trailer better and am ready to give it another try. The kids had a blast but wished they could have caught a fish.
The guy at the ramp I talked to said the fish were really biting good and had a limit of nice sized trout. He was just useing a worm. He said they were catching them up by the channel but he went down by the dam that day and caught some.

I feel your pain buddy. I ended up with a dead battery this weekend on Arrow Rock. Lucky for my the troller ran like a champ and saved the day.
