I need some advise on motor contol cable adjustment. I had a "non-marine motor" shop put a water pump in my motor this year. Now it makes a lot of noise when going into gear (mostly forward), and I can't keep it in gear at trolling speeds. Last year I could troll at 1.2-1.6 mph(GPS) without the plate down and now I have to have the plate down to get under 2mph. I am pretty sure the cables just need adjusted, he had to take the lower end off to do the pump. The real question is this: is it a "hard" thing to do? I have lots of automobile experience, but NONE on an outboard. Is this something I should try or take it in to a boat shop? If a shop, which one?
