drumking, chickamauga, crappie, 4/03/09, Hal - FishNews - 04-04-2009

The wind was brutal at times. I believed the weatherman, so I didn't take my rainsuit. Weatherman lied. It rained on us two different times this morning. Hal took me crappie fishing in his new Pro Crappie Bass Tracker and I was tickled just to be a guest today. Nothing more frustrating than to try to control a boat so that 2 people can fish properly when the wind is contrary. Hal was wore out. emoBigSmile Everytime that the wind was blowing from the right, Hal would turn the boat around to face into it and the wind would immediately switch 180 degrees and down the bank we would go the wrong way again. It was like that all day. The only time that I had to run the trolling motor today was while Hal took a lunch break and ate a sandwich. I would have given $2.00 for a cup of coffee along about 1:00pm.

But enough of our crying about the conditions. On to the report. 56 crappie caught, mostly keepers, some really big keepers too. 14 bluegills, 1 largemouth, 2 spots, 2 yellow bass, 1 drum, 1 yellow perch and 1 bluecatfish.
Don't know what happened to the smallies today, but no hookups with them. We were using 1/32 oz jigheads and putting various plastics on them. They all seemed to work at one time or another. Pearl ringer stinger with a tail light, black/green bg shads, panfish assassins, secret weapon, beavertail grub, SP crappie stinger. Early on we found some spawning fish, later on the fish were on deep docks. I had really good luck on a panfish assassin that was originally pumkinseed color and I took a Q-tip and painted the belly with chartreuse spike-it. That was a really good lure today.

Water temp today was about 2 degrees cooler than yesterday. Today topped out around 57 degrees in the river. We found water that was stained up a lot in the first place that we stopped. It was clearer in the river.
emoGeezer
