Sea anchors - Kent - 06-11-2003
I'm interested in getting a sea anchor, primarily to use for vertical or slow drift trolling. What size do I need for an 18' boat? I was looking at a 30" one and the salesman at Robertson's Marine said that a 24" would be more than adequate. Following his advice, I purchased the 24", which I could still exchange if 30" is the size that I need.

You didn't ask me first. Go get two five gallon buckets, attach a lenght of rope through the handles, throw them off the back of the boat, tie the rope to a cleat first. One 24" sea anchor. Cost's a heck of a lot less than that parachute rig and is easier to handle. I told you I know everything. Sorry, I forgot that you had all knowledge. I already have two five gallon buckets (with about 5" holes cut in the bottom of them) that I occasionally use for walleye fishing; however, I was hoping that a sea anchor works better, (It must if it costs more!), and also, it sure folds up and stores better than buckets do.
