Dry Bed Monsters 4-2-08 - flyfishingfool - 04-03-2009 So I had such a fun time fishing the dry bed yesterday that I decided I would return again today. I got there around 5:30 and found that most of the spots I fished yesterday no longer had water. Most places were not even deep enough for me to throw a fly out anymore. I decided I would walk up stream to find one last place and found a small pool that was full of fish. The fish were so thick in it that I couldn't have possibly thrown a fly without snagging them. So I decided I would go in for them with my hands, considering I had never done it before and always thought it would be kind of fun. I spotted out the biggest ones I could find and went at it. I never measured or weighed any of my final catch but I pulled out some real nice browns. I am just disappointed I didn't catch them yesterday on my fly rod. They would have been real trophies. It is a pity to see so many nice fish go to waste. Anyways, I guess the easy fishing is over now. It looks like it will be completely dry within the next day or so. [signature] Re: [Belasko] Dry Bed Monsters 4-2-08 - jigs - 04-03-2009 someone should go take out a couple 50 gallon tanks and stock there ponds. Last fall when they drained foster we took a 250 gallon tank and probly saved over 1000 bows. I just couldnt stand seeing them go to waiste. And they were no were near that quality. Look at it this way i think fish are around 2 buck a lb last time we bought some. F & G should transport them back to the river, [signature] Re: [packfish] Dry Bed Monsters 4-2-08 - maghunter - 04-03-2009 I know that when the water drops at Gem lake and the channel right below the dam gets low, Idaho Falls power teams up with F and G and they stun the fish and then move them to open water. My brother worked there a couple of summers and has a picture of a huge tiger muskie they stunned. They couldn't figure out how it got into the river. Why can't they do this in the dry bed? Wouldn't cost all that much a couple of officers and a stun boat. I know I would gladly volunteer to help out, get a good look at some monsters. [signature] Re: [packfish] Dry Bed Monsters 4-2-08 - gstott - 04-03-2009 I agree, what a waste of fish. It seems odd that F & G doesn't do anything about it. It happens every year, and has been for what sounds like a long time. You'd think they would plan on it and have people ready to transport the fish back to the river. [signature] Re: [gstott] Dry Bed Monsters 4-2-08 - jigs - 04-03-2009 I wondered if anyone would bring up that its ilegal. We did ask the head over the south east region if we could do this before we did it. So maybe if someone gave them a call they could do likewise. They told us it had to be a private pond not another public body of water, incase they spread disease. I stripped wooly buggers like you said, and caught about 10 or so right off of the apron at the head gate, but I didn't catch any even close to that size. Anyway, thanks for the tip. Getting ready to write another report right now on the snake this evening. I was talking to my dad about why F&G doesnt do something about it and he agreed it is such a waste. It would not be very difficult for them to do something about it and they could get plenty of volunteers to help I am sure. I would have gone and transported a lot of them but I knew it was illegal so didn't bother. Maybe if enough people voice their opinion about it F&G will do something about it. The f&g had actualy messed up and planted it 2 weeks before they drained the lake and i think they were a bit worried about the heat they would catch if they didnt let the public do something and they didnt. I know over at pala ![]() [signature] |
