Nauticman, Chickamauga, Mixed, 3/23/09, Solo - FishNews - 03-26-2009 Fished out of CF. Started out the day by catching a 2# blue cat at a creek channel/main channel junction on a tube bait. Caught 2 LM (one barely a keeper) on a crawfish colored rattle trap on a mud flat way off the river. Proceeded to a popular deep dock and caught 5 keeper crappie and lots of throwbacks. Fished a deep brushpile and caught a 13" crappie, several throwbacks, a warmouth and a spot. Went to Wolftever and caught a 12" crappie out of a very shallow brushpile. All these fish were caught on BG shads and crappie stingers (pearl/chartreuse) with either 1/32 or 1/16 oz. leadheads. Tried some slow trolling in about 10' of water in WT, but only got 2 throwback crappies. Even at a very slow speed, the 1/16 oz. BG shads and crappie stingers seemed to ride too high in the water with 4# test line. I must be doing something wrong there. Ended up with 7 keeper crappie and a spot to take home. Not my best day, but a pretty day to be on the water. Had a real shock when my Cabela's inflatable life preserver inflated itself with a bang and a loud hiss for no reason. I'm glad I didn't have it around my neck at the time or I'd probably launched myself right out of the boat.......... |
