Had a hell of a day today with Coach Clep. We caught smallmouth all day long. We had 7 doubles and caught over 30 smallmouth. I was targeting mussle beds and they were stacked on them. Clep had a 5.10 and I had a 5.8 and 5.2 and we had bunches in the 4 lb range. I lost my dream fish, I thought I had a big drum because I couldn't move him off the bottom then he started coming up and come out of the water about 8 feet from me then layed on the top then he went down and did a little head shake and pulled out. It was in the upper class of smallmouth. I have never seen one that big before and I promise it brought tears. I called my Friend Wes and could hardly talk. I know you always hear stories about the big one that got away but this was the fish I have been looking for my whole life. To add to this I layed my phone on the net and I get one on and Coach grabs the net and there goes my phone with about 15 pics on it. Thank goodness Clep also had a phone. I feel bad because he caught as many as I did and lost some pics of some fine SM he had caught. This ranks right up there as one of my best days to this point.
