homemade fishing rod/reel? - kevharris - 03-23-2009 How could I make a simple rod/reel combo using a cane pole & a tincan as the reel? I would like a simple project for my Cub Scouts to make. Any ideas out there? Thanks, Kevin [signature] Re: [kevharris] homemade fishing rod/reel? - Dryrod - 03-24-2009 [#008000] Hi there kevharris. As a child growing up during the depression we used a tin can wrapped in kite string as a drop line for fishing. Would be the same thing if one wrapped fishing line around a stick. To fish with a cane pole, we would tie a line to the tip pole and just fish it that way. There isn't any way that I know of attaching a can to a cane pole to work like a reel.[/#008000][signature] Re: [kevharris] homemade fishing rod/reel? - code2110 - 04-14-2009 Hi Kevin, I know how to made a simplest fishing kit as you need. All are simple & very effective. Today, many people still using this simple method to catch fish. Some could get a 10kg plus fish. For them it is more flexible then the modern one. In order to make one, you need to have: * A pole, bamboo is the best choice. The length is depend on your own purpose. If you need to through the bait far, surely you need a long pole roughly from 1.5 to 3m max. * Iron wire to made an O ring on top of the pole. The wire need to be strong. * Some cotton line to wrap the O ring to the pole. * Glue for coating the cotton line after wrapping the O ring to the pole. * 1 Milk powder can, around 20cm in diameter. * Fishing line * Fish hook --> Then enjoy.
