Good day today(PICS) - migrod - 03-15-2009 Had a multi -species day today. Bagged dozens of bluegill, red spotted sunfishes, and a trophy Mexican Mayan!!! The temp was warmer, and the fish were certainly out in force. Today the bluegills were more wary the usual and wouldn't hit my jigs. But the Berkley Crappie nibbles bait was definitely the ticket. I haven't caught anything with this bait in months, for what ever the reason, the yellow crappie nibbles was driving them crazy. Caught some really big ones too, some of these bluegills look like they are on steroids!! LOL ![]() Check out the size of the head on this pittbull gill!!! These in my opinion are the best fightin sunfishes. ![]() This is a beautiful (red spotted sunfish.) ![]() A yellow 4 inch Banjo Minnow in mid depth at a drop off's edge proved too tempting to this hard fighting trophy Mayan cichlid!! This one was the biggest I've ever caught. These Mexican exotics fight real good, they head for the deep structures to break you off. They remind me of saltwater snappers. ![]() Take care Hope you enjoyed migrod.citymax.com [signature] Re: [migrod] Good day today(PICS) - basshunter206 - 03-15-2009 thats one beefy bluegill lol [signature] Re: [migrod] Good day today(PICS) - lunkerhunter2 - 03-16-2009 Sweet pics. I wish we had some exotics around here. Oh wait, we do out on the Nevada border but you run the risk of getting raped or robbed. Tilapia are thick out there. I also heard there were a few peacocks in there. How about you overnite a few of them Chichlids to me???[sly] [signature] Re: [basshunter206] Good day today(PICS) - migrod - 03-16-2009 There must be some growth hormones in this here lake LOL. But yes, they look like they cant pack on any more mass. [signature] Re: [lunkerhunter2] Good day today(PICS) - migrod - 03-16-2009 Well, no I can't imagine getting raped or robbed is worth catching any exotic species.[shocked] Best to stay as safe as possible and catch what's at hand. [ ![]() I encourage all anglers to make a trip to Florida and catch as many invasive species as they can catch. There are many, many, many here. I caught some nice ones yesterday but they came through the ice ![]() [signature] Re: [brittlab] Good day today(PICS) - migrod - 03-16-2009 Thanks bro Ice fishing is certainly something I'd like to try some day. Yeah, the Mayans are cool looking to say the least. They are pretty aggresive and love hitting top water plugs too. Take care [signature] Re: [migrod] Good day today(PICS) - chrome_junky - 03-17-2009 are the mayan good eating? [signature] Re: [migrod] Good day today(PICS) - bigpikeguy - 03-17-2009 I know of a little place in PA that you can get some monster gills like that! funny thing is that i can only seem to get them in one spot on the entire lake, and they only start to bite about an hour before dark. That hour is action packed though! im talking one right after the other. It don't take to many of those boys to make a nice dinner. Ummm Ummm good eatin! [signature] Re: [chrome_junky] Good day today(PICS) - migrod - 03-17-2009 They aint bad at all. I filleted it and dipped the fillets in milk to kill off the strong "fishy" flavor. Breaded it and fried it in the pan. Some lemon juice on top and salt,Slice of tomato and mayo on a potatoe roll, HMMMMM deliciouse.[ ![]() [signature] Re: [bigpikeguy] Good day today(PICS) - migrod - 03-17-2009 Yes, these guys do stick to a small area of this lake as well. There is a deep drop and just before the edge, there are numerous areas that these gills like to spawn. Right there is where I cast to catch these big boys. Any other part of the lake they are normal size. Take care [signature] Re: [migrod] Good day today(PICS) - tubeN2 - 03-17-2009 A good 2 to 3 hour milk bath is just about enough for any of the really fishy tasting species. Some require an ovenight bath. Lemon is always a nice touch at the end. You can always add some ground dill or Tarragon too for some added flavor.[cool] [signature] |
