Tough fishing today, at least had some Sunfish fun - migrod - 03-08-2009 Had a tough day fishing today. It must be the lower temps lately, the Bass have been inactive all day. The Peacocks as well have been on slow mode. Casted for hours without one bite. Used my Banjos, Rapalas Xrap, and other lures with no success. ![]() As I was about to give up, I found where the bluegills migrated to because of the colder weather. ![]() You can always count on the aggressive sunfishes to never let you go home empty handed. ![]() [signature] Re: [migrod] Tough fishing today, at least had some Sunfish fun - tubeN2 - 03-08-2009 Nice report bro. Yeah the Bass will go down when the water is too cold. It is better to find them near a drop off or ledge when they exist in a lake. A nice Gill is always a good way to put something on the dinner table.[cool] [signature] Re: [tubeN2] Tough fishing today, at least had some Sunfish fun - migrod - 03-08-2009 Thanks Tube I have some good lures to work the deep edges next week. I figured the bass must be there, for some reason I thought since the cold they would be in the shallows trying to find all the heat from the sun possible. Guess I was wrong, hopefully next weekend I'll get myself a nice hawg. Man, I miss picking up a 5 + pound bass, it's been awhile. Take care. Just give them a count down to let them sink and bring them back slower. The Bass want an easy meal in the colder water and don't like to chase too much. You may also want to Carolina or Texas rig a Sluggo along the bottom as long as there is not too much structure. I like the 10" Sluggo with a weedless 5/0 Gamakatzu. Creep it ever so slow. Let it sit for 20 seconds or so and give it a slight twitch once you know you are around the ridge. This works for some of the more finicky Bass. Peacocks will go nuts in cold water with the 7inch Brush Hawgs. Same technique. The slower, the better. Watermelon, Motoroil and Pumkinseed have worked for me in most of the US waters including Florida and Hawaiian waters where there are Peacocks.[cool] [signature] Re: [tubeN2] Tough fishing today, at least had some Sunfish fun - migrod - 03-08-2009 Thanks Tube Great info indeed my friend. Will certainly be useful on my next outing. Take care buddy [signature] Re: [migrod] Tough fishing today, at least had some Sunfish fun - Simp - 03-09-2009 I had a tough day fishing myself. Got back from vacation, and its been really warm the past few days, the water temp rose, so I figured the bass would be a little more active than they had been. I was right. I got a one pounder from my girl's pond, but that was it. Thank God for those crappie. They keep it interesting, but I still get slightly disheartened when I find I got a crappie, because I really want bass, and that's what I'm after. Believe it or not, I sometimes target them just because of how much fun it is to catch them. They are mighty tasty too[cool] I hear ya about the Bass. Haven't caught a good one in months. Can't wait for next month or so when the temp gets back to the 70s. Congrats on the one pounder, hey, at least you caught a Bass[ ![]() Check out my site migrod.citymax.com [signature] Re: [migrod] Tough fishing today, at least had some Sunfish fun - Simp - 03-09-2009 Oh yeah man, I hear you. I target em too on occasion. They are something I like to catch on a cane pole. Last summer when I was first together with my girlfriend we'd throw a catfish line out and let it sit, and then crappie fish while we waited for a bite. We'd catch little half pound largemouth bass on the cane poles, and that's when I first decided I wanted to try bass fishing. I did ok last year, and this year I'm targeting my first 5lb bass. Of course I'm going to be fine and dandy with anything over a pound haha. I'll be fishing in the river more this year though, I didn't do that really at all last year. Why go to the river when I have a beautiful girlfriend to fish with in our own private pond? This year though, the big fish are in the river, so I'll be hitting it more this year.
