Lucky Peak? - forgiven - 03-04-2009

Anyone heard a fishing report on Lucky Peak? I'm thinking about taking my 'toon boat there this weekend. Heard something about some kokanee action but no details.

Anybody fly fish for them?

The only time I have ever caught them on a fly rod was on the South Fork by Featherville when they were spawning. They fought like a wet rag but sure were cool looking up close.
I have never had much luck on anything else at Lucky Peak besides the small mouth. One night a buddy and I went up and pulled out probably 25 or 30 between the two of us in an hour or so. Pretty fun stuff.

Yes, I do have some current info about L.P. A few days ago boats were finding nice kokes at a variety of depths. The trick is finding the large schools. They were catching them with pop gear, wedding rings, and shoepeg corn. If you are in a pontoon, I would suggest bagging the dodger or pop gear, and going with the w. r. and corn. The kokanee are running 15-16 inches. Fish in the Spring Shores area; calmer waters and that is where the fish are. Try anywhere from 6 to 20 feet deep. Let me know how you do. Mike

Awesome! thanks for the info. I may have my toon ready with the trolling motor. If I do I'll try the pop gear. If not I'll try the wedding ring & corn. Thanks!

Why not use the pop gear with the wedding ring? Hint...Hint...[Wink]

That is what I usually do trolling in a boat. I don't know if I want to drag the pop gear kicking or rowing my pontoon.

I C said the blind man to his deaf wife. [fishin]

Might work quite well at that slow speed, never know.

Won't find out this weekend anyway. A bunch of STUFF came up. Looks like I an not going to go.[frown]

There is always next time! Maybe I'll have the trolling motor all set up by then!
