First popper - Dryrod - 03-01-2009 [font "Garamond"][#008000][size 4]Well just finished making my first popper. Everything was moving along okay until I started to insert some legs and that is when I realized, duh that my popper was upside down. Too late to make a change as I had epoxied it in pretty good. Generally it is the legs or the ribbing that I realized I have left off. Though I do have a couple of complete stimulators that don't have wings. I have been wondering how effective they will be without the wing. and was wondering if they might be more visible in the water that way. BTW I only purchased model # PP7. There is a character on UTube that demos his way of making a popper. Oh yea and the legs are handing out there like wings.[/size][/#008000][/font] [center][inline "Popper 1.jpg"] [signature] Re: [Dryrod] First popper - macfly55 - 03-02-2009 this may sound like a silly suggestion.. but it is something that I have been thinking about recently.. but.. when you try it on the water.. why dont you tie it onto your leader right side up.. meaning put the hook up.. that way you would get the correct movement out of it in the water.. teh only difference would be that the hook is on top and not the bottom.. Perhaps I am missing something here for I really don't pay attention how I thread my fly. Besides when I cast it out the heavy end is going to assume the bottom postion. Like with a Clouser the barbell will take the bottom position since it is heavier than the hook is from the bend to the point.[/size][/#008000][/font] [signature] Re: [Dryrod] First popper - Scruffy_Fly - 03-02-2009 I hate it when my Royal Wulff lands upside down. I have yet to catch a fish with it that way. Does not seem to be a popular position with the fish. It baffles me how those really small dry flies consistently land upside right. I would think that twist in the tippet material and wind currents would cause them to land catawompus. Hey DryRod, you could glue a couple of strips of lead wire to the top side to get it to flip over. Maybe make it shaped like a keel and pointed askew a little bit.
