Ririe Reservoir report - DeeCee - 02-08-2009 [] Two of us fished Ririe from 9:30 to 5:30. Beautiful sunny day but fishing was very slow. Must have been 125 people on the ice from dam to 1/2 mile up reservoir. Finally took a walk about up the west side of res and back down the east side where my party of two had caught no fish. Very few fish being landed by anyone. Saw one sucker, 10 or 15 perch in the 7 to 7 and 1/2" range between three fishing parties. One or two Kokanee here and there on ice. 90% of people no fish at all. Found four people with limits of kokanee using silver willowleaf shaped spoons with red attached with meal or wax worm or night crawler. We belined over and became neighbors 30 yards away from one small group of three. From 12:30 to 5:00 p.m. hooked 14 kokanee and kept eleven about 12" long and three perch about 71/2 " long. Glad I went looking for someone catching fish, it saved the day. DeeCee I ice fish not because I like the cold, but because it is the only time I can impress my wife, by walking on water. I guess I can say "ditto" to what your original post was DeeCee. My group started fishing about 7:00 A.M. and finished around 1:30 P.M. Fishing was very, very slow. Some observations to make: Again, approximately 125 ice fishers that I could count, parking lot well over full, seems like only a few fish being taken around the various groups, my group landed only (1) Cutthroat about 12" long. Fished the west side trying to get away from all the crowds. Constant buzz of power augers and 4- wheelers I think has got to have an effect. Wish I had better news! Is it just me or does it seem like there are a lot more people taking up ice fishing than a few years ago. Not bad, just makes us all focus more on what it takes to be successful. [signature] Re: [dublmmz] Ririe Reservoir report - windriver - 02-11-2009 I think the number of people ice fishing has increased dramatically in the last few years. I would think this increase is due to the improvement in ice fishing technology. I think the relatively light and cheap ice houses along with super warm clothes has made ice fishing more comfortable. You no longer have to be super man to withstand the elements.[cool] Cheaper power-augers, ice fishing poles etc... have also made the sport more accesible and comfortable. Improved electronics make it easier to find fish and stay on them so people move more rather then just staying in one spot and hoping the fish come to them. All of these things make ice fishing easier and a more successful venture for families or those that normaly would not stand out in 0 degree weather.
