Tried for crappie today on bluffs and steep rocky banks and didn't catch a one. I did catch a 5.5lb. largemouth on 4# test line with a BG pearl baby shad on a 1/16 oz. leadhead about 25' deep. I also caught several drum up to 11 lbs. that way. Sometimes I think maybe I should be called the "drumking" (no disrespect to the real "Drumking&quotWink. All fish were released.

The surface temp was 40 when I got to Chester Frost about noon and got up as high as 45 on the river. It was white-capping pretty good on the river about the middle of the afternoon (SW wind).

I talked with several fishermen and none had caught any crappie. One nice gentleman took my picture with the bass and I took his with a 6 lb. largemouth he had caught on a crappie jig. I e-mailed the pictures to him. I was also glad I had jumper cables on my boat to get him going when his starter battery died.

Drumking has been posting about feeding periods and that the crappie might now only be feeding one hour or so per day. The solunar tables I looked at on a website had the major feeding period today during mid-morning. Maybe thats why I struck out on the crappie this pm???
