Closest place to provo for squirrel or pheasant hunting - netiad - 01-29-2009 I am completely new to hunting. I don't even own a gun yet. A few questions: 1. Where is the closest place to provo where I can hunt squirrel or pheasents? 2. Is there something else I can hunt that is closer to provo? 3. How much will a license cost? 4. Is a ruger 10/22 good enough for the job? thanks a head of time. Those birds are also hard to come by any more. There are some game farms down that way that you can buy some birds and hunt them. Your 10/22 is perfect for squirrels. Not sure if you are looking for tree or ground squirrels though. Up by Strawberry reservoir there used to be a decent population of the ground variety. Licences vary by type and age. Check [url "http://wildlife.utah.gov/index.php"]here[/url] for pricing structures. If you hunt on a game farm, you don't need a license. If you hunt squirrels only, you don't need a license either. Jack rabbits are not protected, but cotton tails are. All other game animals require a license. Good luck, be safe, and have fun. Also, you need a hunters safety card before you can even buy a license.[ ![]() [signature] Re: [lunkerhunter2] Closest place to provo for squirrel or pheasant hunting - Theekillerbee - 02-02-2009 Silly Brody, I don't hunt them, I kill them![cool] [signature] Re: [lunkerhunter2] Closest place to provo for squirrel or pheasant hunting - 2fishon - 02-02-2009 Squirrels are not protected in Utah. I did a little research, and they fall under the non-protected mammal category, like a prarie dog. I know a place to bang some bigguns.[ ![]() [signature] Re: [lunkerhunter2] Closest place to provo for squirrel or pheasant hunting - 2fishon - 02-03-2009 It wasn't in the upland game guidebook. I did a general search on the DWR page and it came up under one of the other books- something to do with other mammals. (b) "Protected wildlife" does not include coyote, field mouse, gopher, ground squirrel, jack rabbit, muskrat, and raccoon. This a list from the CFR. I know there are a couple more in the Guidebook that are not listed. [/font] [signature] |
