Where Are All The Eastern Anglers? - Brook - 01-01-2009 Am I the only member who fishes east of the Mississippi River? Sometimes it seems that way, as our flyfishing discussions seem to be overwhelmingly about fishing the West. Don't get me wrong. I've nothing against the West or the PNW. Love fishing out there when I can. But surely there are other's at BFT who live and fish in the East. Can we hear from some of you? Get's pretty lonely, otherwise. It was just a general thing. Although I'm sure there have been mentions here and there (you and I briefly brought up the Catskill Confluence, iirc), I can't recall any thread since I joined that was oriented to the East. And was beginning to wonder if I'm the only non-Westerner here. You've been to my website, and know how diverse it is. Yet, among the most popular stories are the ones on flyfishing New York's Ausable, and Georgia's Chattahoochie Rivers. So I would expect that a place that focuses on flyfishing would also be talking about popular Eastern rivers. But such has not been the case. Meanwhile, as a newbie here, I've hesitated to discuss Eastern fishing cuz I didn't want to be talking into a vacuum. Thus, my question about other Eastern anglers. What I've found is that they generally have little traffic, and what there is has little to do with flyfishing. In the Northeast, New York and Pennsylvania seem to have the most activity. But even those aren't particularly busy sites. And if you go to New Hampshire, you'll find there has been, on average, one post a month for most of the past year. And it seems the further south you go, the less activity there is. Kentucky, alas, may as well not exist. I'm sure this all has to do with how many members BFT has in each state, and where their interests lie. By and large, flyfishers are found here, and the main flyfishing forum. But if there are many easterners besides me they're keeping pretty silent. And had no idea you could view them on-line (I'm really a dinosaur when it comes to this high-tech stuff). How do you go about searching for that sort of thing? You're not the only one. I fish NY,PA,and NJ. Hit a creek today in PA got 2 browns. [signature] Re: [tailgrabber] Where Are All The Eastern Anglers? - Brook - 02-26-2009 Sounds like my old stomping grounds, Tailgrabber. I used to live in that area, and fished all over the region: those three plus into New England. Where'd you fish in Pennsy this time? Once it warms up I fish the Delaware river, or head to NY,NJ for some saltwater action. Late fall early winter -late winter early spring Walleye and Musky are biting. The rest of the year I am going for smallies. Mid summer the Stripers make there way up here too. If I am looking for trout I will hit some feeder creeks. They have a pretty big run the beginning of May. They go all the way up to Kingston. [signature] Re: [Brook] Where Are All The Eastern Anglers? - Wbranch_1 - 03-03-2009 [ ![]() [signature] |
