Little doubt under water cam's will entertain the kids. I use mine at Dah Berry from time to time but rarely in water of over 25' deep because light penetration due to water clarity and depth plays a huge factor as far as how well you'll see while using a under water cam.. But for chits and giggles they can be usefull..

if you are deciding between a flasher and a camera.. go with the flasher. Those cameras have limited visibility, they would be great in the clear waters of the pacific.. but This is UTAH. You don't see as much as you hoped you would see with them.

Anyone tried out the Cabela's line? I already have a sonar and live by it, but have always thought about picking up an underwater cam for fun too. Curious if the remote control panning/direction is worth it? Might just buy the $99 just to have the toy in the arsenal. Dang auto panning sure sounds cool though!!

Re: [fishin4fun] UnderWater camera - wiperhunter2 - 12-22-2008

I haven't heard of auto panning, how does it work?
Littleutahbill-As the others have said, it can be fun and useful in shallow water the deeper the water the shorter the distance you can see. At Bear lake where the water is very clear, I have used it in 60 ft of water but by far it is more useful in water that is 10 to 30 ft. It is fun to watch the fish and how they act when you are jigging and dead sticking. Fuzzyfisher put up some video footage that he took last year that is pretty cool and you can get a good idea what you will see when using one of the underwater cameras. If you can't find it, ask him, I'm sure he can give you a link to it. WH2

Re: [littleutahbill] UnderWater camera - fishnutts - 12-22-2008

I have 2 of them, i bought an Aqua view a couple years back, and got a Cabelas version for Xmas last year. Like the previous post's said, the deeper you get the less visibility, i would put my money towards a Flasher. If your
still interested in a under water Camera send me a PM i sale you one of my for cheap, hell i make you a deal on both of them.lol

Re: [fishin4fun] UnderWater camera - RyanCreek - 12-22-2008

I've got the Cabela's line and it works great. I don't have the panning/direction thing, I just got the ice-pod that you put over the hole. You can turn the rubber stop to adjust the camera. Maybe $10 - $15 to get that.

Cameras are cool, but they're more of a novelty in my opinion. If you want to catch fish, use your money on sonar. If you wan't to look at them, get a camera.

Personally, I find that I waste alot of time setting it up, and you can't really fish with them right next to your lure cause fish will wrap your line around the camera cable. The only thing to do there is to try angling the camera downwards and get it at the right angle like fuzzy does, but he makes it look easy - it's not.

Re: [littleutahbill] UnderWater camera - BigBuck3333 - 12-23-2008

like the prvios posts they have there limits ive had a aqua view for years and love it at strawberry or east canyon, you just have to use yer brain and learn how to use one you drill a hole just for the camera about 2 feet away from your jigging hole lure goes to botttom you drop camera down optional hole turn camera till you see yer jig lock cable with a stick and set back and enjoy. most fish are caught on the botom during the winter at the berry any way and it makes it alot more entertaing to fish. i got mine about 4 years ago and couldnt see how any one could fish without.

I HAVE AN AQUAVIEW AND USE IT ONLY OCCASIONALLY. iTS BULKY, CUMBERSOME AND EXTRA MATERIAL TO LUG ON THE ICE. I SOMETIMES SEE FISH OR CRAWFISH BUT ITS NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE. ALSO, WITH ANY SUN, YOU LOSE VISIBILITY. YOU CANNOT HAVE ANY SUNLIGHT ON THE SCREEN OTHERWISE ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. STRICTLY A COSTLY NOVELTY BUT AT LEAST I HAVE ONE. [reply][/reply]

Yup, I have the 7" Cabelas. It works fine and is alot of fun. Whats really funny is I use it alot for other non-fishing thigns... drop a bolt down into an engine or something... go grab the camera and snake it down in there Smile

Welcome to the site Northcarolina, thanks for signing up.
The fish I'm holding in my avatar is a wiper, a cross between a white bass and a striper. The fish in the video is a tiger trout.

Dallan -

Thanks for the info. Do you have the panning/direction version or the standard 7" version?

Wiperhunter - Cabela's has an auto pan version than turns the camera with a wired or wireless remote. Also shows you the direction. I would really like one, but don't know if this feature is worth paying $299 vs. $99 (5.5")/$149 (7") for the other models. Leaning on the 7" non panning version right now.

For those that have them, is it worth it to go from 5.5" to 7"? Is the extra screen size worth it or a non issue?

I have the standard 7". I *DO* like the 7" over the 5", it makes it easier to see without being right next to the silly thing. I use mine in a shelter so light isnt a problem.

I aim my camera straight DOWN. Paning isnt an issue... just lower it down till you can see the jigs and call it good.

With the sale, cabelas cc money, and the $20 off purchase coupon I think we paid around $50 for ours last year. Smoking deal for a fun toy.

Re: [DallanC] UnderWater camera - Steelheadr - 12-23-2008

I also have the 7" Cabelas - good picture in the ice tent and has a regular RCA video out cable connection in case you want to record to a camcorder (I think AquaView uses a proprietary connection). Fun for the grandkids and helpful to observe jigging techniques - I'll take both the camera and the flasher this year.
