Here is Noted Colorado High Mountain Lake Guru Ron Belak's information on the Orange Asher>

Re: [Scruffy_Fly] Got My Flies - flygoddess - 12-11-2008

You know what is funny, I fish the Uinta Lakes most of the summer because of the elevation and much cooler.
ORANGE is a big color up there, plus Renagades and Griffith Gnats. I had the idea to make a fly with Orange floss and wrap Grizzly Hackle like a Griffith.
So basically, minus the tail, I have been using this fly allot.....IT WORKS!

Which also brings up a good point. Just when you think you have come up with a killer pattern......someone else already has done it[mad]

Re: [flygoddess] Got My Flies - macfly55 - 12-11-2008

you say without a tail but the article I just read on it from the link Scruffy gave us lists and shows it with a tail?? Can I assume it can be tied both ways and it still remain effective??

Re: [macfly55] Got My Flies - flygoddess - 12-11-2008

I guess for the ORANGE ASHER you add a tail, and for my (what I thought was original[mad][laugh]) no tail.
He says the Asher works and ALL MY FLIES WORK LOL[laugh][laugh][laugh]

The Tail and the use of dubbing are two things Ron added beyond the traditional tie for the orange asher.

Before there was one listed on the internet I had to visit ever fly shop in the Denver area to find the only shop that had one so I could see what it looked like.

Here is another sample of the Orange Asher:

Re: [flygoddess] Got My Flies - Scruffy_Fly - 12-13-2008

I got around to openning the mailbox and there were the flies. They all do look great.

MacFly it looks like your fly tying is coming along nicely. The Griffith's knat would be a simple fly to tie but the smallness of it makes it somewhat harder to do and do nicely. Nicely done!

Cool looking wings on the BWO Fly Goddess.

I have been meaning to get around to tying some madam Xs. This should provide a little inspiration.
The parachute knat looks like an excellent fly to try if the BWO is being ignored. I like that pattern.

The Yellow Sally is an unusual tie. I am anxious to see what it does on the water but I that is going to have to wait awhile. The bipolar worm looks like it should drive a few trout crazy this winter in Southern California. The name fits the fly.

DR - thank your for handling the swap.

[font "Garamond"][#008000][size 4][Image: happy.gif]Here is a fly was recommended for the upper Kern River. I tied a few but duh forgot all about them when I got on the water. Perhaps I should have said in the water. Don't want to appear that I can compete with the # 1 man. This is called an Orange Stimulator.[/size][/#008000][/font]

Re: [Dryrod] Got My Flies - Scruffy_Fly - 12-14-2008

Yeah I have done that. I have also done the following:

Forgot that I had tied up special flies for the occasion so I did not use them even though they were in one of the other fly boxes I had on my vest.

Swear and curse up a storm. Remain PO'd at myself all day for forgetting to take those new special flies with me. Then when I get home I find them in the pocket of my jeans right where they have been all day.... inside my waders.

Re: [Dryrod] Got My Flies - flygoddess - 12-14-2008

Me too. Mine was, I had been guiding at the lodge all week. The lodge being 160 miles from home, I stayed up there.
Got home on a Thursday evening and threw my gear in the back of the truck for a weekend fly fishing trip with the family in Idaho...or at least I thought I threw my gear in.
Got up there and found out I left my boxes with all my nymphs in it at home. And of course, the fish wanted nymphs. I did manage to find something they liked so the trip wasn't a total loss, but I bet I went back to the truck three times looking for that box until I remembered.
