New Rod....Is it a Good One? - Simp - 11-30-2008
Went to Dick's Sporting Goods the day after Thanksgiving, of course they had big sales going on. I saw a Daiwa Samurai spinning combo on sale for $13 bucks, figured "why not" and got it. Anyone have experience with this one or with Daiwa period? Is it good equipment? I finally got my fishing license again, so I wanna hit the river again. But I don't want to take more than one rod, as it becomes cumbersome. So will this be a good one for bassing, or should I just take my 7' Berkely Lighting rod or my Shakespeare baitcast combo and save the new one for the pond?

I think you did good, I've used Daiwa many times and I love them, actually a hard choice for me at times between a Shimano or Daiwa. Good buy!

The Samurai reel used to sell for $29.95 (reel only). Its a good deal just by that fact alone. As for the rod, I'm not sure how good it is.
The Samurai is the same as the Cabela's Fish Eagle II. I had two of them and they are very adequate reels.

13 Bucks for that combo was a great deal and it should last you a long time if you take care of it. Diawa is a solid brand.
What is the length and action of the rod?
