Fly Fishing on Strawberry Help - fish2xtc - 11-17-2008

I am going to try to hit the Berry on Tuesday, and since they don't rent boats up there any longer, I am probably going to take the float tube. I will be jigging most of the time, but I have started fly fishing a bit also so I want to flip a few flies or buggers also. Anyone have any good hints on want to use on a fly rod? Also, I have floating line on. Will that be a problem? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I usually use sink line there, but my buddy swears by floating. Use different varieties of leech patterns and lighter(white/tan) wooley buggers or zonkers this time of year. Very large patterns are sometimes killer now.

I would try leeches and chartreuse streamers. Also I know it is a little late in the season but from late spring to mid fall try a mouse pattern as the sun is coming up or going down. They attack mice with a vengeance during twilight hours, its a blast watching big boys kill those surface flies. Strip them with short erratic strip about 1" long at various speeds. Check out the mouse in that guys mouth. Have fun man.

I was there Sunday in my pontoon.
A little alarming, I figured for the Middle of November the fish would be shallow and sluggish.
FAR FROM THE TRUTH. Water temp was 43...WARM! Fish were 40+ feet deep and a very fast retrieve.
I was going right off the bottom using a TYPE VII and Depth Charge 300 grain. Plus a weighted fly. I was hooking them on every cast.
18" to 24+"

WHITE Bunny leech was my ticket.

Check my Blog.
