Bad year for bunnies? - bigearl - 11-16-2008
We just put 250 miles on the car round trip, stopped in 3 different areas, and 4 of us hit 7 jacks.
First we tried a new spot between Snowville and Park Valley. Didn't even see a rabbit.
Next we tried a good looking spot west of park valley. Jumped one Jack way ahead of us.
Finally we made the long trek west and north over dirt roads to a spot by Yost that has been great in the past. We finally got into a few, but far and in between.
Was this a fluke, or are the rabbits on a down cycle? We usually run over a few on the way in. This year there wasn't even a dead rabbit on the road.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
On the plus side we saw a lot of deer, and some really nice 4x4 and 3x3 bucks south of Lynn. They were right off the road chasing does, with one big buck mounting a doe about 70 yards from us. They sure get dumb durring the rut.

We hunted from Locomotive to Grouse creek and killed 2 jacks and had a yote at 75 tards with the '06 over his vitals but we were in Loco Springs and didn't want any trouble. We walked a total of 6.13 miles on the gps and only saw a total of 6 rabbits killing only 2 of them. This is going to be a very bad hunting year for everything.[pirate][pirate]

I noticed that the rabbits we did see were running like hell way out of range. Not one stopped to look back and even give me a shot with the 243. Very disappointing.[frown]

a 243 for rabbits that would be expensive i would have to disagree on the rabbits i went out last week and seen about the same amount as i usually do i think we ended up with somewhere around 10-15 in a few hours witch isnt killer but ok beating the roads with the kids i didnt see any coyotes was the only bad thing [frown]

I totally agree!
I have some honey holes that I have seen 100s of rabbits everytime I have gone out. I have never been there and not seen over 100 rabbits and shot at least 20.
We went out last weekend and didn't see one rabbit!!! It was the wierdest thing I have ever seen.
