Bassin' Gear Topic - Martini78 - 10-15-2008
Since I've gotten into bass fishing, I've started to designate certain rod/reel rigs for certain types of lures. For instance, I've got a Medium weight, mod-fast action casting set-up for crankbaits, another rod/reel combo for Texas-Rigs, shaky head, etc... Do you other bass fishermen do the same?

You don't even want to get me started. If my wife found out how much money I've spent on rods and reels she'd kill me. I just got a crankbait rod with a high speed reel as my latest edition. Senkos, dropshot, spinnerbaits, topwater, jerkbait, light T-rig, heavy T-rig, wacky rig, carolina rig, swimbait, crankbait, flippin', jiggin'....you name it, there's a pole for everything. Sometimes I'll have both rod lockers full and poles next to the seats because I don't know what to use that day. Usually, I will end up sticking with 5-6 rods....well maybe 7 or 8 [blush]
Some of my poles are designed for certain uses but have found it more comfortable to use it for something else. Example, I have a topwater rod that I use for jerkbaits.

I too hide the rods from the wife. You will find as you go down the side of a lake conditions change so baits and techniqe change as well. Quicker to pick up another rod with a bait or lure attached to fish that certain area. I too use a one rod for all crankbaits, jerkbaits and just switch out lures. I only have 7 rods seeing as I fish alot on my buddys boat. It gets insane, but you don't have to stop and rerig a pole as often. Saltwater has it's own section in the shed.[crazy]
