Report from Rivers End Tackle - gdn443 - 10-12-2008 Updated by Pat on October 10th, 2008 * STRIPED BASS - We've come off one of the best October fall runs in Rhode Island than we have seen in years. Up until Wednesdays weather change there were bass and blues on the beaches and rocks from Napatree to Narragansett. Thats cooled now but I don't think its over yet its worth a try and a walk. Locally there have been some shore bass in Waterford. The boats are still getting some medium sized bass on the local reefs. EEL RIGGING SEMINAR this Thursday October 16th at 6:30pm, its free, informal and informative. If you want to recycle those dead eels and make some cow killers stop by and get slimy. Give us a call at the shop so we can get some idea of class size. 860-388-2283. BLUEFISH - Theres no shortage of teeth out there with some of the biggest ones closer to shore. Theres blues up to mid teens in size right in the Connecticut River, cut fresh bunker is producing most of the from and near shore spots. Cranes, Cornfield, Hatchetts and Long Sand Shoal all have mixed sizes of blues. The Race, Plum Gut and Pigeon Rip have small to medium sizes falling for diamond jigs. BONITO, FALSE ALBACORE - No reports locally the last few days but I don't think its entirely over. Theres still bay anchovies around the Watch Hill and Fishers Island area and that will attract and tunoids that are about. Reports from Montauk this morning were no albies. BLACKFISH- Reports and weigh ins have been good this with blacks up to 12 pounds. It seems every reef has some blacks and a lot of boats. Black Point has had a lot of fish and fishermen, North Hill somewhat less, Southwest good. In general the fish seem somewhat smaller than last fall but the numbers are good. -- Pat Abate Rivers End Tackle 440 Boston Post Road Old Saybrook, CT 06475 (860) 388-2283 [#003399]info@riversendtackle.com[/#003399] [signature] |
