What temperature do you like for fishing? - Dryrod - 10-10-2008

[#008000][Image: happy.gif]Many of us live in different temperate zones. Therefore one’s preference might reflect where they live, use to live or would like to reside. The question is what temperature do you find most comfortable for fishing? BTW this is not about what those sub-surface dudes like.[/#008000]

I love Spring and Fall. Winter is good also...but that is rivers, for stillwater I am going to say 70's

I'm going with fall fishing. The weather here in UT is usually reasonably stable, and I love the high mountain streams and lakes after labor day, when most people go back to school and work. If I could just get out more.

I tend to favor 60 degrees or less for Trout and mid 70s for the Bass.[cool]

Given my absolute druthers, I'd avoid fishing locally during high summer. It's too hot, too muggy, too buggy.

But, as I'm not the first to say, the reality is that the best time to go fishing is when you can. Most people have limited amounts of time they can spend on outdoor recreation, and have to maximize those hours.

80 is perfect anytime, anywhere. 80 in the Keys. 80 in the Rockies. 80 80 80. In the Rockies, that usually means the day starts out in the 50's, and reaches the low 80's sometime in the mid-afternoon, followed by late day clouds and a possible shower to cool things off slightly.

No layers, no gloves, no socks. Just light pants or shorts, a tee shirt or very light long-sleeve for sun protection, and Tevas! My fly stays dry with one false-cast, the fish are always looking up, and there are daily hatches of something.

Summer is just way too dammed short, but for about 10 or 12 weeks, 80 is perfect!

In the Florida Keys, the tarpon's preferred water temperature is around 80. So is the fisherman's!
