identifying fish - flexin22s - 09-13-2008

can anyone help me identify this fish? we have had numerous people try and haven't found a real answer. it is a black and gold small fish about 2-3 inches in length. around the gill area is a blueish indigo spot and several streaks of indigo around the fins .any help is appreciated...

Where was this fish caught ? Looks like a tropical breed. Nee dmore imfo.

it was found in a canal about 2 miles from the river/ocean after tropical storm faye

Have you looked up baby species of grouper? I'm not an ocean fisher because I live in Middle America, but I'm just trying to contribute to the think tank. Smile

I do believe that Faye ended in the Fl region. That being the case and with the dominant coloration that you described would definitely make that a juvenile Goliath Grouper.

If you plan on keeping it, I would up grade it's tank from that water bottle to something more like the size of a Volkswagen Bus.[cool]
