Sturgon? - manudevil20 - 08-19-2008 Hey guys. My GF wants to take me out Sturgeon fishing this weekend for my Bday. I had a couple questions. I need to go out and buy a couple rods and i need some recomendations on them. Also what size line and how big of weights should i need. I will be going to CJ Strike below the dam. Thanks Re: [manudevil20] Sturgon? - windriver - 08-20-2008 I do not know much about sturgeon fishing but there is some information if you search threads from a couple of months ago. Cabella's has 10-12 foot rods that work great, I weight mine at 60lb test, some people go a little higher. I am a Penn reel fan, I have a magged penn 555 that I love (use to use for shark fishing now sturgeon), but I also see a lot of big spinner reels, that just depends on whether or not you know how to cast a bait caster or are willing to learn. IFG asks you not to use braid or stainless steel hooks so if you break off the fish can lose the hook in a decent amount of time. 10oz pyramid weights are the ticket, you don't want to go anything less with the turbines running or you'll be down river all day/night.
