Willow pond no myth - poncho - 05-08-2003

There are big fish in Willow pond I was there when they put them in, in Jan. Probably not many left but there are some, I say a guy take a couple of nice one's home with him just the other day.

I caught one about 8lbs and a friend caught one about 12lbs. And I caught many in the 2 to 6 lb. range, and saw many caught.

Don't know how many they put in but there was several trucks.

Those are great pics Poncho!

Where exactly is Willow pond? I live in the Roy area and am pretty familiar with the surrounding cities.

How did those big trout taste?. Did they have any fins?. Those are excess brood fish from Egan Hatchery.

Good Fishing, Kayote

Thanks Poncho,

I will be in SLC tomorrow for a conference, and am going to try and hit that pond after the meeting. I bet there are a couple of big boys left in there, and I have the shiner bait to bring them out!

Can't tell you how they tasted cause I don't eat trout. But the guy that caught the 12lber. said it was good. As for fins they were pretty ragged from being in pens all them years. All the big one's and small one's I caught were put back except for a few I gave to a family I know. I do eat fish but about all I eat are Walleye and Crappie and other sun fish.

Hello. Were your trout taken on bait or is this pond an artificial flies and lures only pond? I have driven by it tons but I have never stoped in to take a closer look at it.

You can use bait or lures I've caught fish on both.

Poncho, curious how you happen to be at these ponds (twice at Farmington recently, and then at Willow in the past) when they plant them? Is it just because you fish so much (I am jealous!), or do you find out the fish planting schedules and plan your trips around them, or what?

Just luck or too much fishing, I must admit I do fish alot. I took an early retirement so I could spend more time doing what I like instead of doing what I had to. Wife still work's so I've got all day all week.

Fish all day while the wife works! You have definitely got your priorities straight! Enjoy your retirement, fish til dark! I bet you have earned it!

Only 43 more years of 12 hour days before my retirement!

Stopped by Willow pond today for a little while, people still catching trout. Now I didn't see this but a guy told me they stocked it yesterday. Seen several fish in the 12 to 14in. range caught, pretty nice fish. I didn't have to much luck, caught a couple small trout and a few gold fish, wasn't there long though.

Poncho, you are slipping if you missed seeing a stocking. You're not fishing enough!

Looks like a Mac to me Too ! Nice fish Poncho ! I only hit it a couple of times and it is close to home . I did see a big cat floating dead the last time I was there . I have only caught 8 to 10 " bows on spinners and jigs . But it is crowded there . Not my type of habitat but may try again . Tight lines
