Arrowrock Report - BMURR - 06-02-2008 The family and I decided we were going to go exploring some of the local fisheries on Saturday. We ended up going to Arrowrock. Since our children are 2 1/2 and 11 months it limits the fishing possibilities but we still made the most out of it. We were fishing from the bank. The weather was great and we found a sandy area for the kids to play. Not really knowing what type of fish are found in Arrowrock I started out throwing jigs, spinners and a few jerkbaits with no luck. My daughter kept asking me where the fish were so I resorted to trying old reliable, the worm/mallow combo. After a while of waiting I started picking up what I think were squaw fish. Having never caught that species of fish before I wasn't sure. Nevertheless my daughter was excited to finally see a fish and she even started to help me reel them in. Overall we ended up catching a dozen or so and one large sucker. I'm curious, what other species are found in Arrowrock? I was interested in possibly taking my toon up there one morning before it gets too hot. Trout fishing can be good from the bank, but is best during the colder seasons. I have found that bank fishing is best before sunrise. Kokanee are not frequently caught from shore; trolling is the name of the game. Good fishing. Can't keep them off the hook when trolling for trout or Kokanee. Ton of smallmouth bass as Kodiak mentioned; especially back up the South Fork of the Boise River arm. Haven't caught any smallies over 2 lbs and most are 7-8". [signature] |
