i caught this lil guy as i was reeling in my last cast of the night. dont know what it is. got another cat too, pics on the cat board. its just over a foot long. biggest one yet for me. [

I love those guys. Always find them around the same places I catch the Channel Cats. They make a good fish fry also.

interesting. i came upon a guy today whilke working catchin lots of channel cats. helped him land one. i came to sobering realization for a lazy guy...im gonna have to get up bout 7am with turke livers to try for some big channel cats...lol...

I'd let that one go too. I like em a little bigger. I also love those guys because they all seem to hang out together. ONce you start catching them, you'll keep catching them.

we catch our share of those while targeting walleyes in the great lakes.
about twice that size would be the minimum size to keep.

Actually, that is a yellow bass. They are almost identical to the white bass except they have a yellow tint to them.

Realy? Its a whole other species? Seems to me that would be like breaking down Walleye into Greenback Walleye and Gold Walleye... But what do I know. I've never caught the "Yellow" variety here

The yellow bass are mostly in the southern and eastern areas of the lower 48. The stripes are a little more solid than the white bass and it has a yellow tint to it. Google yellow bass and you'll see. It is basically a white bass, but obviously a different species. They reproduce other yellow bass, these are not white bass that sometimes are yellow. It is a consistently produced genetic genotype, so yes it is a different species.

i went and looked at a better picture of it, well, the second one i caught, where im holding it up clearly, and i can definitely see the yellow tint.

]. Well, going back to my earlier posts, I suppose I don't love those guys, as I have never seen one in Manitoba waters. However, I'm sure they are very much like white bass, and I'll hazard a guess that they share many of the schooling and good eating and fun catching features.[signature]

hold on to your dipsy diver! beleive it or not, walleye are broken in to sub and hi bred species, yellow being one, sorry I dont remember the names of the others. I know them but just cant recall them at the moment. Michigan ohio illinois and wisconson has about 5 different species of walleyes in their waters..... "Just an FYI"
I know there are other sub and hibred species of the black bass too, small mouth and large mouth being the most popular.
the subspecies of bass is generaly a geograffic thing. meaning they dont exist out of their natural areas because there has been no market to move them around the country.
