What would take a 3ft Needlefish??? - FishinMan06 - 06-26-2007
Hello all, Im fishing in Navarre Beach, in Santa Rosa Sound and I was experimenting with about a 3ft needlefish hooked though the back with a 75lb steel leader. When suddenly my rod slammed over and my reel started screaming. The fish made a hard run towards the opposite side of the bay, taking over a 100yds of my 50lb spiderwire and managing to some how break it. [img]../../images/gforum/mad.gif[/img]I was using my Penn 706Z and my 8ft Sturgeon Rod. Any ideas to what fish might be capable of doing that??? And how I can prevent that from happening again?

Sounds like a shark may have found your bait. They will often make a long straight run, I'm thinking bull shark.
