Lake Mead Thursday - doz - 06-15-2007 Went out around Hole 33 about 6:30. Fished some anchovies for a bit with just nibbles. Saw a big boil (lasted awhile). We hit it first and got 4 out of it. No boats in site, then all of a sudden 4 other boats were on the boil! They jumped around for a bit. Got 4 more, had to throw 1 back. All about 1 - 1 1/2 lb's. Off the water at about 8:30pm. But it is still light enough to see. Stripercraze [signature] Re: [stripercraze] Lake Mead Thursday - doz - 06-15-2007 Not necissarily. Gotten reports that the fish are boiling all through the morning as well, and some in the afternoon if you can find them. I know the shad they are chasing are small, so maybe downsize bait a bit. I had a large Wild Eye swimbait on. Couldve probably gotten a few more with a smaller one I think. I personally find that striper fishing is best right after sunset and all through the night (up till 2-4 a.m.) I'm curious to hear that they were nibbling on the chovies but they weren't taking them. I think you're right. The pieces were too big for them, which means there was a school of small stripers. I'm talking ones the size of your hand. It gets really frustrating when I encounter schools of these small stripers. I find that casting about 10-20 yards beyond them may bring larger stripers. But that's not always the case. Anyway, good luck next time. Best regards, Paul [signature] |
