Ok, I have this fishing trip to Short Lake in Canada (north of Mojikit / Armstrong Station) in June.. We are definitely walleye fishing, and at least one other guy is up for spending a day going after northerns.. But now I find out that the deeper holes in Short Lake and a few other spots up there have sturgeon in them..
I am seriously considering going for a triple up there and going for the sturgeon as well.. But now I have absolutely no clue where to even begin to learn about sturgeon fishing.. I've been looking around the net for ideas and the bulk of those involve "hire a guide".. I did email the outfitter we will be using, but haven't heard back from them yet..
So, am I nuts for considering giving up a day of walleye fishing just hoping to hook a sturgeon??

Go to the Idaho board and do a sturgeon search. I have posted there as well as Kentofnsl and some others. Some good reads and info for ya. I would definately try for a sturgeon depending on the size. I would give up eyes for a 5'er.[

[ul][li]catch your limit of eyes,[/li] [li]then catch your limit of pike[/li] [li]then go after a sturgeon... you may not get a bite all day, but you may. and you can fish for them all night too...[/li] [li]as a matter of fact you can fish pike and walleye during the day then sturgeon during the night...[/li][/ul]

[ul][li]sturgeon are bottom feeders, [/li] [li]they like fresh dead minnow or shiner or bigger bait fish[/li] [li]they like a big ball of crawler on a hook as well...[/li][/ul]
