Name the species contest - BrianID - 05-07-2007 [black]I will tie a half a dozen flies or jigs for the first person who identifies the fish in the pictures below. They will also get their choice of a BFT hat, BFT shirt or BFT Flag. [/black][black] All of the species in the pictures were caught in Eastern Idaho. The fish in pictures 10 & 11 were caught a few years ago but the rest were caught within the last 12 months. When the contest is over I will post the body of water these fish were caught.[/black] [black][/black] [black]The first 19 pictures only show 1 species in each picture. Picture 20 shows two species to identify. With 21 species, I don’t think this contest will be as easy as it first appears. Good Luck! [/black] [black]The rules are: #1 You need a registered user name to win. #2 All species in the pictures need to be identified in a single post before the end of May. #3 Before you post your answer you must have made at least one other post on BFT Idaho within the last year under your registered username. It doesn't matter if the post was made only 5 minutes before you post your answer. #4 If you don't identify all the species correctly the first try you can try again but you may only make one post per day. #5 You don't have to name the exact strain of fish but you can't post a general answer like "trout" or "bass". An answer like "rainbow trout" or "cutthroat trout" will be sufficient. If you guess that a species is "Yellowstone cutthroat" and it is a "Bear Lake cutthroat" I will still count your answer correct because it is a cutthroat trout.[/black] [black]#1[/black] [black][/black] [black]#2[/black] [black] [black]#3[/black] [black] [black]#4[/black] [black] [black]#5[/black] [black] [black]#6[/black] [black] [black]#7[/black] [black] [black]#8[/black] [black] [black]#9[/black] [black] [black]#10[/black] [black] [black]#11[/black] [black] [black]#12[/black] [black] [black]#13[/black] [black] [black]#14[/black] [black] [black]#15[/black] [black] [black]#16[/black] [black] [black]#17[/black] [black] [black]#18[/black] [black] [black]#19[/black] [black] [black]#20 ***Name both Species*****[/black] [black] [signature] Re: [BrianID] Name the species contest - ReelLady - 05-08-2007 Gee, I need to broaden my fishing experiences...never have fished for the warm water variety so I'm out on this one. I really like those browns though. [signature] Re: [ReelLady] Name the species contest - windriver - 05-08-2007 Ok, some of these are really hard to tell because you can't see all of their features. 1. rainbow trout-maybe a hybrid can't see the top of the head 2. rainbow 3. hybrid 4. small mouth bass 5. yellowstone cutt 6. mud cat 7. walleye 8. fine spotted cut 9. tiger trout 10. It isn't easy trying to identify fish by just a picture especially when the picture is a little blurry. Remember all of the species in the pictures were caught in Eastern Idaho. The attached picture shows a slightly better look at the head of the fish in picture #1 you missed 3, 9, 13, & 20 [signature] Re: [windriver] Name the species contest - catchandrelease - 05-08-2007 1 Hybrid cutbow from Henry's? 2- Rainbow 3- Chunky Rainbow 4-Smallmouth Bass 5- Cutthroat 6- Bullhead Catfish aka mudcat 7- Walleye 8- Cutthroat 9- Brown Trout 10-Cuthroat...notice edit. 11- LMB 12- Brown Trout 13- Green eared(?) sunfish but definately a sunfish.(mouth gives it away) 14- Cutthroat 15- Channel Catfish 16- Rainbow 17- Yellow Perch 18- Bluegill 19- Brown Trout 20- Rainbow 21- Brown [signature] Re: [catchandrelease] Name the species contest - BrianID - 05-08-2007 I made a mistake in my last post. Windriver missed one of the other species. I may have made another mistake but it looks like you have all but one of them correct. I either took all the pictures or was there and I might not be able to get them all correct. Very impressive, considering how difficult this contest is. Someone should be able to win this contest before the end of the week. [signature] Re: [BrianID] Name the species contest - windriver - 05-08-2007 Ok I will try to fix a few of these. #3 Rainbow-Maybe from American Falls? Although the squished dots might indicate some hybridization. #9 Brown #13 Pumpkin seed. #20 Rainbow #21 Brown Thanks Windriver [signature] Re: [catchandrelease] Name the species contest - BrianID - 05-10-2007 No one has identified the fish in Picture #10 correctly yet. Catchandrelease, I didn't notice the edit until today. Just start a new post so I won't miss it.
