Whats your favorite species of panfish? - mattscru - 05-05-2007 Mines the longeared sunfish. I think they have to be best looking freshwater fish in north america! [inline longear_sunfish.jpg] [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - tubeN2 - 05-05-2007 I would have to go with the Blue Gills. They are probably the best eating of all the Panfish.[cool] [signature] Re: [tubeN2] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - mattscru - 05-05-2007 I agree on eating them tube, but crappie and gills are really close when it comes to eating. I like the longeared because of the color and markings. I used to have one in my aquarium for years I caught off a dry fly. There are so many recipes for them. I could never get tired of eating Panfish. Hey Krazie Scott! If it fits nicely in your pan, then it is a panfish. lol[cool] [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - Bluegillman - 05-06-2007 For eatting it is the Bluegills. For looks again it is the Bluegills! For the joy of fishing and catching them, it is the Bluegills!![ ![]() ![]() [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - birddogwi - 05-06-2007 My personal favorite is the Crappie. [signature] Re: [birddogwi] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - mattscru - 05-06-2007 For fishing, theirs nothing more fun than a school of slabs. Eating, crappie are the best, close second is the bluegill and shellcracker. But for beauty who can disagree with the longeared sunfish? [inline longear_sunfish.jpg] [signature] Re: [straight6pwr] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - mattscru - 05-06-2007 Thats a good question. Who considers yellow perch a panfish? They are in the walleye family but I think as fishing goes they'd fall more into the panfish group. Tell me what yall think! Matt [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - straight6pwr - 05-06-2007 i'd say panfish based on a couple of things. 1)size 2)eating habits, they are less picky about bait and presentation, like other pan fish versus walleye. 3)they hang out in schools with other panfish [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - Tarpon4me - 05-07-2007 Crappie all the way! Wanna know why? It's simple: [#000000]Crappie, black [/#000000] [#000000]Pomoxis nigromaculatus [/#000000] [#000000]All-Tackle [/#000000] [#000000]5 lbs. 0 oz. - 2.26 kgs [/#000000] [#000000] [/#000000] [#000000]Private Lake Missouri USA [/#000000] [#000000]John R. Horstman [/#000000] Crappie are the largest species of panfish and have huge balls. Not to mention there aren't too many species of fish period that have the sweet flakey meat that crappie do. There's nothing "crappy" about a crappie. [ ![]() A close second would be a warmouth. They are equally as big and pretty darn tastey themselves. The world record holding at just under 3 pounds from Florida. [signature] Re: [Tarpon4me] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - mattscru - 05-08-2007 I love to eat warmouth too, but they seem to have more head than meat. One of my crappie holes has alot of warmouth too and sometimes a big bull gill will slip in, I'll eat all of them. My wife actually thinks the warmouth taste better than the crappie. All panfish taste good in my opinion. [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - bassngal - 05-08-2007 [cool] I'm with you, I think that all panfish taste pretty good!! If I had to rate them: 1: crappie 2: bluegill 3: redear bream 4: chinquipin [signature] Re: [Tarpon4me] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - Kraizee_Skot - 05-08-2007 [font "Lucida Console"][#ff4040]Another thing to note about the crappies is that sometimes they are alot harder to catch than most fish IMHO. They are soo finnicky that it's hard to determine what they want![/#ff4040][/font] [signature] Re: [mattscru] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - idahopanfish - 05-08-2007 Right now for me I would have to say Bluegill as they are the only ones cooperating[crazy] [signature] Re: [bassngal] Whats your favorite species of panfish? - mattscru - 05-08-2007 Redear is the same as a shellcracker down here, but whats a chinquipin? Sorry, just never heard of them. Its the same thing as a redear or a shellcracker, just differant names everywhere you go! I learn something new almost every day, a new name for a fish. Now I just got to learn how to pronouce it [ ![]() [signature] |
