I would have to go with the Blue Gills. They are probably the best eating of all the Panfish.[cool]

I agree on eating them tube, but crappie and gills are really close when it comes to eating. I like the longeared because of the color and markings. I used to have one in my aquarium for years I caught off a dry fly.

i love the look of crappies. as far as eating quality, ive never actually eaten a panfish unless you consider perch a panfish.

We used to catch tons of Crappie when I lived in UT. There are so many recipes for them. I could never get tired of eating Panfish.

For fishing, theirs nothing more fun than a school of slabs. Eating, crappie are the best, close second is the bluegill and shellcracker. But for beauty who can disagree with the longeared sunfish? [inline longear_sunfish.jpg]

Thats a good question. Who considers yellow perch a panfish? They are in the walleye family but I think as fishing goes they'd fall more into the panfish group. Tell me what yall think!

i'd say panfish based on a couple of things. 1)size 2)eating habits, they are less picky about bait and presentation, like other pan fish versus walleye. 3)they hang out in schools with other panfish

Crappie are the largest species of panfish and have huge balls. Not to mention there aren't too many species of fish period that have the sweet flakey meat that crappie do. There's nothing "crappy" about a crappie. [
] A close second would be a warmouth. They are equally as big and pretty darn tastey themselves. The world record holding at just under 3 pounds from Florida.

I love to eat warmouth too, but they seem to have more head than meat. One of my crappie holes has alot of warmouth too and sometimes a big bull gill will slip in, I'll eat all of them. My wife actually thinks the warmouth taste better than the crappie. All panfish taste good in my opinion.
