Fish Lake / Mill Meadow 2.17/2.19 - Jacksonman - 02-20-2007
Fished Fish Lake Saturday and Monday afternoon at Mackinaw Point. Caught tons of splake and bows. The bows were all suspended in 15 feet and the splake seemed to be at 30 feet. No macs and no perch - where did all the perch go? The bows were bigger than last year - a bunch af two pounders.
Fished Mill Meadow Saturday evening and Monday morning. Ended up catching 5 splake, 1 rainbow, 1 12inch perch and 7 browns or brownbows. Are there really brownbows in MM - some of the browns really looked like rainbows with the brown like spotting.
Beautiful weather on Saturday and stormy on Monday. The fishing was better on Saturday but was good today when the storm let up. How do you catch those macs at Fish Lake - at the Perch?

sounds like you had a great trip!
we caught our perch on small glow jigs tipped with mealies in 20 feet of water. you had to be within about 2 inches of the bottom to get them. it seemed that even an inch too high and you didnt get hits.
its a cool place, and i look forward to learning more about it so i can enjoy more success!

you got to get on,close or right in the weeds to catch the perch.. talked to a buddy of mine sunday said he was there friday and put a spanking to perch off pelacan point.. 1 inch white tube tiped with perch.. all day with some splake and bow's comeing in as well..
i don't think browns and bow's can mix inless it's in a lab.. browns spawn in the fall, bow's in the spring.. so dont think it would work..

Brownbows were stocked in Mill Meadow quite a few years ago, but aren't anymore--they were very unique fish and seemed to be a good genetic frankenstein fish; however, as they grew older, they developed cataracts in their eyes and became blind. These fish have since been removed from the DWR stocking list and are no longer used. I would bet that the fish you caught were browns; I doubt that any brownbows still exist.
