When you're on the water, what do you reach for when the heat is on? - Tarpon4me - 01-31-2007
I've never known an angler that didn't have a certain drink that was always aboard his boat. Rather it be a bottle of water or an ice cold can of beer, everybody has a preference. So, when the heat of the day is beating down on your heads, what do you reach for to ease the pain? [cool]

There was a time when you would not see me in a boat with out a cold beer in my hand. From start to finish, that was my choice of beverage.
Now that time has gone by, i've pretty much lost the taste for beer when i'm on the water. My most favorite drink on the water now is a big thermos of Sweet Tea. I also never leave the dock with out a six pack of Ginger ale. I don't always drink them, but I always have them there just incase. They have a certain medicinal value, as in easing an upset stomach if you catch it early.
I use to love a good cup of hot coffee, until I realized that everytime I drank one on the water, it make me queezy. Coffee and rough water is a bad combo for me. [cool]

If it is pretty warm I make sure that I have my broad brim hat. Too many bouts with skin cancer is enough warning to protect myself. Over exposure to the sun is probably a good topic at another time. [black][size 3]H2O is my go to beverage. If I am ice fishing, I like something hot. If I'm fishing in the summer then I prefer something to cool me off. I don't like sugar drinks as they don't really quench my thirst. And, if I ma going to have a beer, I would rather do it when I am done fishing - to avoid the obligatory additional pit stops when I am fishing.[/size][/black]

LOL, yeah, the constant potty breaks is a pain in the butt. It was actually funny though. We'd all wait around and see how many beers everyone could drink before someone fell in the water while they were trying to pee out of the boat. Usually it never made it that far. If the fishing got slow, we all jump in anyhow. [

I like ice cold purified water with a squirt of lemon. If I've been working quite a bit, gatorade is good, too.

On the Charter boats, I will go with a nice brewski. They do have proper disposal facilities.
When I am tubing, I try to keep my fluids to a minimum until after.

Hey Tom, Have you ever been in a float tube?? This is the sequence of events.
1. Inflate tube while finishing coffee.
2. Download before putting on waders.
3. Put waders on and take last sip of coffee.
4. One more download.
5. Put on fins and ignore the next download signal from the Kidneys.
6. Kick out into the water and determine if the kidneys can hold off just a little bit longer.
7. Throw the first cast and realize that that the kidneys are the boss.
8. Kick to the side of the lake, make download happen and get back to fishing. (while downloading, you are watching the spot that you were just at and the fish are jumping like crazy)
9. Kick back out to the spot only to find out that the bit just shut off.[pirate]

I keep water gatoraide and a couple of soda's for the kids after they drink their water. I save the beer for the camp fire.

That's the best way to do it. Save the beer for back at camp, as long as you don't get too close to the fire. LOL [

Coffee in the morning and water the rest of the day while in the boat. Lots of beer on ice at the camp waiting for us though.
The wife and I made an agreement to not drink alcohol while in our boat when we bought it. We have all night for that at camp or home when were done with the boat. I let my guest drink beer on board if they like, and they let me when I'm on theirs. (that don't happen very often, cause I'm always in mine)[crazy]

It's the same way with me. I'm never on someone elses boat, i'm always the skipper. But, I kinda like it that way.
It is fun to be able to ride along and have a few cold ones though. That's the only way i'd drink on a boat anymore, just like you. [cool]
