where's the "tiger muskie"? - idahopanfish - 01-15-2007

We have a res out here that has tigers in it and I would like one to bite my hook. I am using a tipup with a minnow 3-4". I'm don't know the res real well. I am wondering if by looking at the shore line and with the sonar I might be able to find a cruising lane. I needs some thoughts on how to begin this search. like depth, structure, are they cruising or waiting for something to come by, if I am catching trout or perch should I go deeper or shallower for where they might be stalking?

Thanks guys for the help.

The muskies will be where their food is. I live close to Pineview, a world class tiger musky fishery, and have caught many Tigers.

During the winter, when the perch are in deeper water, the Tigers will follow. Spoons tipped with minnows or perch meat (if legal in your area) are a good bet. Keep a close eye on the sonar. Sometimes they will come in at different areas of the water column, including right under the ice. I have found agressive jigging to be more effective than dead sticking. [Smile]
