Ogden River - maddawg - 02-25-2003 Hey what's up all. Just wondering who's been on the Ogden and the great places to fish it, what to use and how to rig Thanks [signature] Re: [maddawg] Ogden River - Theekillerbee - 02-25-2003 I haven't fished the Ogden yet this year, but I've had excellent luck with small 0 or 00 silver bladed mepps. Most places in the canyon hold fish, I've even caught a few 20 inch browns. You can do well in town just a little below the mouth of the canyon as well. They plant it often. Have fun and good luck. [signature] Re: [maddawg] Ogden River - Theekillerbee - 02-25-2003 I may be shunned for saying this, but I've never really fly fished. Yeah I've dabbled a little, but I've always stuck with my spin rod. Heck I used to have a sweet fly tying set-up. I'd sell the flies to my friends, but I really never used them myself. Kinda I know. I'm sure one of the guys around here can help you out though. Don't catch them all![signature] Re: [Theekillerbee] Ogden River - maddawg - 02-25-2003 you tie flies then? [signature] Re: [maddawg] Ogden River - Theekillerbee - 02-25-2003 I used to tie the heck out of them. My buddies would place an order, and then I'd whip em up. But a couple years ago, I sold all my stuff to a friend. So I guess I don't tie them any more[ ] I figured if I wasn't going to use them myself, there was no need to mess around any more. Plus I'm sure I didn't make any money doing it. I'm pretty sure I lost money, to tell the truth. But it was a lot of fun.[signature] Re: [Theekillerbee] Ogden River - maddawg - 02-25-2003 Well do you think you'll ever get back into it you think. If you do let me know. So if I convince someone to teach me how to flyfish, I'm sure I'll get a new fly tyin' rig. Good luck when you head out. I haven't fished the Ogden in awhile but the I sure alot of small flies will work . I mainly fish nymphs or streamers . I fished Ogden last spring after I hit Pineview on a rainy day after Tigers from shore . Didn't hook up , but I hit the Ogden on the way home and landed 4 nice browns 14" to 18" . I didn't bring the fly gear and was using spinning rod and a 1/16 black jig . A black woolly bugger would of work that day . I was fishing where the dinosaur park is . [signature] Re: [HFT] Ogden River - jacobl - 02-25-2003 Fished the Ogden last Monday. The river is not much more than a trickle, and the fish were very spooky. Tried using a double nymph setup, but I think that the strike indicator I was using spooked them, and so I used a small dry fly as my indicator, with a size 18 head pheasant tail about 18" below it. Caught a few, and missed a few. Did a bit of walking, jumping from hole to hole. Jacob [signature] |
