ice mishap - davetclown - 12-09-2006 some boy went though the ice here in south east michigan, his leather coat took him down to the bottom of the lake. fire department responded with in three minuts, but because of theather coat it took them thirty minuts to find the body. so our firs ice mishap has been logged for the season. he was walking out and thought he had enough ice, he only had 2-3 inches, but todays worm sun realy made the ice a widow maker. It realy should be tought in school. unfortunalty many of the school teachers think of ice as a subject worth talking about. Even I from an older generation can attest to the fact that not a single word was mentioned during my time in school about the dangers of ice. there should at least be some mention of it in our encyclopedia fishing regulation manual. unfortunatly that would not have helped in this situation. from the regeon the boy is from I doubt if fishing let alone ice fishing has ever been his family's coriculum.
