Report from Rivers End Tackle - gdn443 - 05-05-2006 UPDATED BY PAT ON FRIDAY, May 5th, 2006 STRIPED BASS- Its still mainly schoolies with a hint of larger bass in the lower River. There are some 24" plus bass congregating mid-river from South Cove in Old Saybrook. Essex also has some nicer bass near Haydens Point (marker 25). The tides are running slower for the next few days and the River is running clear and a bit lower. That seems to make the bass less likely to hit.The good news is that they're hitting on the surface when they hit. The first bass has been caught at Southwest Reef and we should start hearing from Plum Gut this weekend. FLOUNDER- The Niantic River is still getting fair action with a few limit catches reported last week. We also had reports of a few caught at the Breakwater but nowhere near a limit. FLUKE- Tomorrow is opening day in NY. We have heard some catch and release reports from Montauk and they were scant, however they had some better news from Greenport. Rhode Island had a few small fish reported near the South Shore Beaches. We haven't heard anything from Connecticut waters. Theres a lot of squid and optimism out there. The Flat Out Fluke Contest has started. BLACKFISH- The season end had a grand finale. Season is closed until June 15th. SEMINARS- May 6th- 11am to 2pm-The Butterfly Jigging Technique with the Shimano Pro Staff. This is a relatively new system promoted by Shimano that has done very well in the South and West Coasts. It will be an ongoing seminar so drop in anytime for some good info to be used this season on bass, blues, tuna and maybe fluke. HOURS- We'll be open this Saturday and Sunday from 5am to 5pm. Next Monday through Friday we'll be open from 7am to 7pm. [signature] |
