How safe is hunting in Michigan ? - lonehunter - 02-02-2006 Well just how safe is hunting in Michigan ? Well back in grandpa's day in the 40'S 718,344 Michigan sportsmen ventured out into the woods and feilds to harvest their game , 35 came back in pine boxes , 77 spent time waiting for the doctor to pay a housecall . In pappy's day , the 60's there were more Michigan hunters and less woods to be found . 1,145,360 hunters all after the same thing , food on the table and a nice rack for the wall . 11 didn't make it home and 296 were getting themselves patched up in the emergency room . Now in my day , let's use 2003 as an example , 2,665,952 Michigan sportsmen hit the wilderness such as it is , sometimes sholder to sholder , hunting the same parcel of woods with everyone and his brother . 2 , just 2 would never be able to walk the woods again , 30 had a visit to the E.R. or a hospital stay . A million and a half to one , thats what the odds are now for a Michigan hunter to take a perminate vacation . Here's a little known fact , the sport that leads in more deaths than any other sport in the world , ping-pong . [signature] |
