Fish, clam and crab for free June 11-12 - FishNews - 06-03-2005 SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today announced nearly 40 events scheduled statewide for the 17th annual Free Fishing Weekend, June 11-12. Observed in Oregon each June, Free Fishing Weekend offers Oregon residents and visitors a full weekend to fish, crab and clam without a license. All fishing and shell harvest regulations continue to apply. The celebration began in 1988 as a way to encourage more people to become involved in angling and the outdoors. "We encourage experienced anglers to make a point of introducing friends, family members and especially children to the fun of fishing throughout the year, and Free Fishing Weekend makes it even easier by allowing people to fish without a license," said ODFW Director Lindsay Ball. ODFW sponsors events at sites throughout the state, mostly geared toward introductory angling opportunities for youth. Many are accessible to disabled anglers.
