I was out fishing today for carp and I finally nail one and its pulling drag like crazy so I tighten it up a little bit and it rips the hook right off, man I was PISSED, the knot just unravled, this has happened before to. Unless I spend 5 minutes tying a really good strong knot this stuff does not hold. I love the line, how it casts and feels but I think Im gona have to give up on this stuff, my suffix on my ocean rods knots WAY better. Anyway, sorry for the long post but I was just wondering if anyone els has had this problem with fireline or how you fixed it?

Can't say that I have with fireline. Use a polimar knot and test it before you throw it in. I have had it come undone due to my not getting the knot right, but most of the time it works. Of my 6 rods for sweet water , 5 have fireline. I can't say enough about the line. Good luck

i never had that problem,i use it on all my rods,salt and fresh water,you might have had the knot wrong

Be sure to wet the knot a little bit before cinching up. These knots only take a few seconds to tie. Any time spent tying a good knot is better than losing a good catch.[/size][/green][/font][/center]

as stated above use a palomar knot and you will have no problems with your knot breaking

The majority of your super line such as Fireline, Spiderline, Spider wire and others are ment to be tied with the Trilene knot. I have never had a Trilene knot slip out on me. It seems to hold until you want to remove it.[cool]

The standard clinch knot tied in Spectra will unravel every time.
Uni or San Diego will work fine. You'll wanna throw in a few extra turns than ya would with mono.
Spectra lines generally test closer to their rated # test & have poorer knot strength than mono as well.

well my frend you hooked in to a big fish for sure.
when it comes to fishing for carp, salmon, steelhead I only use a 7 rap snell knot.
the knot rapped around the hook 7 times will not come undone, how ever the line can break and your hooks can streighten out. ya know you fought a battle when your hook comes in looking like a neadle on a compus....

my favorite too, when I break a line I can be back fishing in a pinch, but as impressive as the polimer knot is those atlantic salmon are just a tad better... when you tie in to one of them 30 pounders and see a polimer come untied you will wished you had tied a silmple little knot in the tail... (the polimer knot was the knot I was refering to when I mention tieing a no slip knot in the tail end)
I was using that knot last fall when I was tearin in to a school of salmon.... boy howdy did they make me feel like a freshmen back in high school.... I battled about twenty of them before I pulled one in... just wait till you see your fish jumping 3-4 feet out of water... if you can take a vidio camera,,,, cause no one will beleive your fishing stories when you get home.....[

[font "Arial Black"][red][size 3] I have never had a problem with the Fireline. Most of my reels are loaded with Fireline and I also use a Palomar Knot, be sure to wet the line before you try to cinch the knot tight. [/size][/red][/font]

no, I did not have a good salmon rod to play the fish with.
these salmon run from 15-30 pounds and have the current of the manistee to aid them in their fight. thay all seem to want to run down river and you are in for at least a 15 minute battle.
after talking to several anglers up there they do use the polimer knot they place a no-slip knot on the tail of the polimer. they do come untied after about 15-20 minutes of solid tug-a-war

What yer sayin' is that yer favorite knot is one that comes untied after 15 minutes unless ya tie a stopper in the end of it?[shocked]

] I'm tellin' ya, I TRIED! [blush] I can tie a San Diego in the dark on a pitching deck & I've never ever not-even-once pulled in a pigtail with it. SD works on Spectra, too. Think I'll stick with what I know...

after you have tied that polimer you need to tie a no slip knot on the loose thread, (tail) this will stop the knot from unravaling.
most of the michigan's northern salmon anglers add this last knot as a safty precausion. the line will then have only two options, bring in the fish or break....

I did in fact have some problems with the Fireline, but not from the knot giving way...I had problems with what apparently was a bad lot according to the manufacturer.
I have switched over to the Stealth braid and have not had any problems since.
I prefer the Palomar knot for all braids, regardless of the manufacturer/brand...as for monofilament line, I use the double improved clinch knot and nothing else.
