Big Manistee Steelhead Report - lonehunter - 03-14-2005 Monday......March 13, 2005 [#000080] Hello Everyone, [/#000080] Cabin fever a problem of lately? Yearning for better weather and outdoor activities? You're not in this boat alone, because all of us who live in Michigan have had enough of this winter stuff! The lion of March has been fierce in Manistee County where I live with sub-normal and frigid temperatures! Yes, there are fish being caught, but our temps are running way behind normal. Iron Noggins spawn in earnest when the water temperature reaches 38 degrees and above. Right now, the temp of the big river is around the 34 degree mark, so a warming trend is needed to put the Steelies on the redds (gravel spawning nests, or beds). Look towards the end of this month if you're up for some decent action. Your chances for success will be much enhanced if you fish mid-week and away from the hoards that descend upon Steelhead rivers and streams at this time of year. Capt. Jay Frolenko is handling all my former river clients and can be reached at (231) 898-2019. He's skilled at what he does, and for the quality of experience he offers, his rates are beyond reasonable. If you live in, or around the Grand Rapids area, Capt. Jay will be at the upcoming sport show there starting this Thursday (3/17/05). He'll be there with a good selection of my Reel Flashers for sale. Look Capt. Jay at the "Strike Zone" charter booth. Now is the time to plan your strategies and get a firm fishing game plan together. Besides, it's a great incentive to rid yourself of winter cabin fever! Calm Seas, Bent Rods, Smooth Drags and Extremely Heavy Fish Boxes, As Always.............Capt.
