Beaver Lake ,Cave Run,Green River ,Kentucky River - daymere - 08-26-2004 Special Report on Beaver Lake from Fish and Wildlife Studies done this spring (April for bass, and May for bluegill/shellcracker) indicated no shad present. None have been detected there since removal procedures done in Dec., 1998. Officer Rick Hettinger (Anderson Co.) reports that the fine for possession of shad at Beaver Lake in Anderson Co. would be $25 to $200 per fish, plus $110.50 court costs. NOTE: That fine is PER baitfish.. so 10 shad = $250 to $2500 in fines. Water temps on the main lake were in the 74-76 degree range with visibility of 6-8 ft in many places. The coves and creeks have more stain with warmer temps. The banks with clay and mud became more stain as the day progressed and boat traffic increased. We started out in the AM with cloudy, cool whether and showers and ended the day in sunny, hot conditions with temps in the high 70’s to 80’s. The bass were in the middle to end of the spawn with fish in all stages of spawning, pre-spawn, spawn and post spawn. The fish were active on several patterns from topwater to Carolina rigging. Spinnerbaits, soft and hard jerkbaits and soft plastics all produced and were effective. But with the spawn close to being over expect the topwater bite to really break out the next few weeks. Weedbeds and laydowns played a major role in fishing Sunday, most fish were caught on or near weedbeds, any wood or rocks in the area made for a major plus! The weedbeds are growing fast, some of the weedbeds we fished the prior weekend were a good 4-6 inches taller this past Sunday. As the post spawn phase transitions to summer patterns the fish should start moving to deeper haunts with deeper weedbeds that have an added attraction such as wood or rocks to be the best bets. Some of the guys caught some very nice bass, including 2 smallmouth, the biggest at 3.5 lbs. and LM in the 3-4 lb range. This lake has a lot to offer, the bass fishery is outstanding and should continue to improve over the next few years. And the Musky are awesome! This report is from our roving reporter. Wind gusting 5 to 10 MPH, air temp. 78°. Main lake areas had slight chop from boat wakes. The surface water temperature varied between 84.7º to 85.4°. The water level is at summer pool. Water quality stained dark green around Green River State Park / Emerald Island Marine and clear above the dam. Sonar showed fish deep 15’ to 20’, with some good concentrations along drop offs. I noticed some large fish (15’+) along rock wall across from Green River State Camp ground. I jigged the bottom with plastic worms and tried various crank baits (numerous depths where I saw fish) across from Tim Horton’s Children’s camp. Also trolled various crank baits along rock wall across from Green River Camp Ground. Hooked a Walleye and lost him at boat. Maybe 23” Around 12:30 p.m. I decided to Crappie fish favorite spots near Emerald Island Marina and caught 12 keepers using jigs and live minnows. In the course of the day I spoke to 2 other boats fishing different parts of the lake. One boat w/ one fisherman caught 1 Largemouth 1 ½ lb, another boat with 2 people caught 3 channel cats and 10 keeper Crappie. Hope this helps anybody going out to Green. Good Luck! Please where your life jacket!
