Western Region - Bassmaster-ND - 07-24-2004 [left]Fishermen and biologists are reporting the flows in many of the areas streams and rivers are down, which is expected now that we have reached mid-summer. John Mullican gives us this report from the upper Potomac. The river is clear, but slightly higher than normal for this time of year. The white miller mayflies have been hatching pretty heavy from Shepherdstown down to Point-of-Rocks. With the insect hatches occurring in the late afternoon and evening, that is the best time to fish. Mornings this time of year generally have little activity. Small white buzzbaits, poppers, grubs and crankbaits will catch both smallmouth bass and redbreast sunfish. While it is exciting to catch fish on top waters, subsurface ![]() |
