FLOODING AND WIND DAMAGE IN THE MID-WEST - davetclown - 05-25-2004 FLOODING AND WIND DAMAGE IN THE MID-WEST With the heavy rain and winds over the last week, there is much flooding, wind damage, and power outages. Fortunately, we have been preparing ahead with resources both through MSU Extension and the national Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN). For information on flood and wind damage recovery, go to either the your MSU Extension Emergency Management web site at [#0000ff]www.msue.msu.edu/emergency[/#0000ff], or the EDEN web site at [#0000ff]http://www.agctr.lsu.edu/eden/[/#0000ff]. The MSUE site is also available from the MSUE home page at [#0000ff]www.msue.msu.edu/[/#0000ff]. On the MSUE-EM site you will information on replanting corn, sanitizing homes after flooding, repairing storm damaged trees, safe use of portable generators, federal assistance to home owners, etc.. These pieces of information can be found under the "Resource" section, under specific storm information icons, and/or within the "Disaster Response Notebook". Also, in case of power outage at an MSUE facility, a hard copy of the Disaster Response Notebook is available at every county Extension office, and every area experiment station and departmental office on campus with an Extension component. Each Notebook has a complementary CD rom with the same information. And of course, Extension specialists also can provide information related to topics within their area of expertise. At the EDEN site, there are over 200 "Extension Websites" linked from various Land Grant Universities, many which include information related to floods, wind, and power. In addition, a searchable database is included in the "Resource Catalog" if you wish to obtain resources. Mark Mark F.
