Half Of Chesapeake Stripers Infected - DrownedDesertRat - 05-04-2004
CLAIBORNE, MD—Biologists believe at least half of the striped bass in the Chesapeake Bay carry Mycobacterium marinum, an organism that causes "fish handler's disease" in humans.
The disease was first documented by Maryland scientists in 1998. They now estimate it's spread to 50 percent of stripers in some areas of the bay. The Virginia Institute of Marine Science, however, estimates 76 percent are infected.
Human symptoms include swelling and joint stiffness. Consult your doctor if symptoms persist.

Sounds like our own mad cow disease for fisherman. Hope that it doesn't travel outside of Maryland.Striper fishing has just started to get good these past 15 years.

I read about that somewhere also. It is interesting some of the diseases coming around now. Elk in Montana, cows and sheep, and now fish. Seems like everything we eat, as far as meat goes. I like your Jesus emblem, so cool. There is nothing better to be hooked on.

Part of the reason I'm a vegetarian is due to all the diseases and poisons being found in the meat that everybody enjoys. I say if you're going to eat meat, follow the biblical guidelines. My goal is to get back to the Edenic diet but it's so hard to give up cheese!
