SALTWATER FISHING TRENDS - Bassmaster-ND - 04-29-2004 PIERS: Cherry Grove Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Whiting, small spot and a few black drum are being taken mainly on bloodworms. A few blues were caught using Gotcha plugs. Water temperature is 65 degrees. Apache Pier (Myrtle Beach): Bait shop open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. A nice black drum weighed in at six and a half pounds, along with some nice whiting (around two pounds). A few spot are also being caught. Use bloodworms, shrimp or cut bait. Sharks are also being caught and released. Springmaid Pier: Open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, year-round. Some nice size whiting, trout, and blues are being taken using shrimp and cut bait. Water temperature is around 65 degrees. Myrtle Beach State Park Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Small whiting are being taken on shrimp, mullet or cut bait. Small sharks are being caught and released. Surfside Pier: Open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Lots of nice whiting and small blues are being taken using shrimp and cut bait. A nice spotted sea trout (two pounds, fourteen ounces) was caught on shrimp. The Pier at Garden City: Open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. King mackerel fishing allowed only during tournaments. A couple of nice pompano in the one and a half pound range were caught on shrimp. Some Spanish mackerel are beginning to show up. Use shrimp, cut bait or jigs. A few flounder, puppy drum (small red drum) and whiting are being taken with cut bait. Winyah Bay Fishing and Observation Pier (Georgetown): Open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, with Free parking and fishing. Freshwater fishing license is required due to brackish water. Visitors also enjoy great bird watching. No report available. Folly Beach Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Water temperature is 66 degrees. Two nice pompano in the two and a half pound range were caught using a two-drop line with shrimp on the bottom. Black drum and whiting are also biting. Use shrimp or cut bait. Hunting Island State Park Fishing Pier: Pier open 24 hours a day. The Nature Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday - Saturday. Whiting, a few flounder and rays are being caught using shrimp.
